Glen Iris Childcare and Kindergarten - Babies
6 weeks to 18 months
Our Babies room can have up to 12 children per day, and follows a one educator to 4 children ratio. The room is designed to reflect the home environment to allow the babies to feel safe and secure while they are growing and exploring.
The Babies room daily routine is relaxed and progressive and follows each child’s individual preferences regarding bottles, meals, sleep and play. For sleep time, we play soothing music and have dimmed lighting which helps accommodate each child’s individual sleep routine. As the children grow they quickly move into more of a routine that is similar to the rest of the centre, which we allow to take place at the child’s own pace.
Our room leader plans for each individual child on a regular basis through a cycle of observation, implementation and evaluation. This means that the children are engaging in activities of interest and working on areas of need. As a baby progresses through the room, we support their growth in major areas such as walking, talking and other developmental milestones.
Children move up to the Toddler room when they are emotionally and developmentally ready. Families are given the opportunity to decide when they would like their child to move up to the next room and the whole process is done at the child’s pace and the level at which they feel comfortable.
